Matt Reiter

Principal

Mathew Reiter is Principal at Capitol Associates, Inc., a bipartisan lobbying, and policy analysis firm located in Alexandria, VA. Matt represents the firm’s clients on legislative and regulatory health policy issues including provider reimbursement, value-based payment systems, administrative simplification, and efforts to reform the U.S. healthcare system. Since joining CAI in 2014, Matt has worked with corporate and non-profit organizations for healthcare providers, healthcare facilities, patient advocacy groups and health plans.

Matt believes that the best healthcare policies recognize that the patient’s perspective is the most important. Healthcare policy, which is largely made through reimbursement systems, must align with what patients value to be most effective. Matt works with clients to build effective government relations strategies based on this principle.

Matt is both a policy analyst and an advocate. He helps clients understand an issue so that they can make informed decisions about educating their members and advocating before Congress and federal agencies. Matt provides legislative and regulatory updates to clients at conferences and membership meetings. Matt helps clients build and implement an effective government relations operation. He also helps clients engage with media organizations to broaden the reach of their advocacy messages.

Matt’s interest in public policy was fostered by his internship for Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY).Prior to working at Capitol Associates, Matt spent three years at a lobbying firm supporting its healthcare, agriculture, appropriations and energy practices.

Matt recently completed a two-year term as Chair of the Society of Health Policy Young Professionals, D.C.’s premier networking organization for young professionals who work in health policy. He has held similar leadership roles such the Vice President of Education for the Old Town Toastmasters club.

Matt is a Graduate of American University, where he earned B.A. degrees in Law and Society as well as Philosophy. He is also active in the D.C. music scene as a guitar player. He currently resides with his wife and daughter in Washington, D.C.
